TRAFFIC COMMISSION MEETING

WEDNESDAY, June 4, 2008

 

Voting Members Present:  Don Spencer, Paul Steel, Roy Nutter, Chris Gluck, Graham Kenneweg, Tony Barill

 

Non-Voting Members Present: Terry Hough, Lt. Mike Lantz

 

Members Absent: Peter Schuster, Ken Martis, Betty McClain, Dennis Bidwell

 

MATTER OF BUSINESS:

 

Roy Nutter Called to order 6:30

Assigned Seating.

Minutes were approved for August 6 2008 Meeting.

 

BICYCLE BOARD:

Frank G. presented the Bicycle Board report. 

 

Bicycle Board Membership.

Request Chris Phillips  and Derek Springston be appointed to Bicycle Board. 

 

Paul moved to appoint Chris Phillips and Derek Springston to Bicycle Board. Don seconded motion. Motion Passed Unanimously.

 

Greg Good and Bill Regernash Resigned from Bicycle Board.

Replacements to be brought up next meeting.

 

Press release - Morgantown Installs Shared Lane Markings. 

Frank explains example of press release.

Discussion ensued.

 

Rail Trail Stripe – Mark Wise

There is a Committee to discuss the Rail Trail Stripe.  Paul Steel to join Committee. 

 

Pedestrian Safety Board:

Bill Regernash – Pedestrian Board – discussed Pedestrian Safety Plan.

Chris Abildso recommended to Pedestrian Board

Paul Moved to appoint Chris Abildso to Pedestrian Board.  Tony seconded Motion.

Motion Approved.

 

Bill requested that the Pedestrian Board be added to Traffic Commission web page.

Roy Nutter stated that we would do that.

 

Roy Nutter requested that the Pedestrian Board report monthly to the Traffic Commission.

Willowdale Rd – Being reviewed by Dr. Ron Eck

 

Narrow Streets

Tom Arnold, Director of Parking Authority discusses issues with Trash Pick up.  The trucks can not fit down the streets. The department heads will meet and find possible solutions.  Discussion Ensued.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Country Club Rd

Roy reviewed request. Don Spencer recommended moving issue to Traffic Calming Committee. Discussion Ensued.  Traffic Calming Sub-Committee to review problems.

 

Hess Street

We could remove the yellow line.  Chris made motion to remove yellow line across from 432 Hess Street. Don seconded motion. Motion passed.

 

Jackson Ave – request for stop signs – Paul describes neighborhood wants to use stop signs to cut down on speeding.  Discussion ensued.  Roy suggests Traffic Study be done. 

Discussion ensued.  Paul move to table issue until traffic Study be done.  Chris seconded motion. Motion passed unanimously

 

COMMISSION COMMENTS:

Don requests yellow lines not be painted in front of the sidewalks in front of peoples houses.  Residents see it as a psychological barrier.  The yellow lines on both sides of the sidewalk should be enough.  The yellow line should not be there for esthetic purposes as well as social reasons
