TRAFFIC COMMISSION MEETING
WEDNESDAY, April 2, 2008
Voting Members Present: Don Spencer, Graham Kenneweg, Chris Gluck, Ken Martis, Paul Steel, Roy Nutter,
Non-Voting Members Present: Dave Purkey, Lt. Mike Lantz
Members Absent: Peter Schuster, Dennis Bidwell, Terry Hough
MATTER OF BUSINESS:
Meeting was called to order by Chairman Roy Nutter.
Minutes were approved from March 5, 2008 meeting.
BICYCLE BOARD:
Frank Gmeindl, Bicycle Board Chairman, gave status report on the Bicycle Board activities. Frank stated that May is National Bike month and May 16, 2008 is Bike to Work Day.
Pedestrian Safety Board:
Greg Good, Pedestrian Safety Board Member, gave report fro Pedestrian Safety Board. The PSB is focusing on Pedestrian Safety. At the May 7, 2008 TC Meeting the PSB will have solutions to pay for Pedestrian Safety Solution.
Traffic Calming Sub-Committee:
Roy Nutter gave report.
Monthly Updates:
Dave Purkey reviewed Monthly Update spreadsheet.
Laurel Street Bridge:
Several residents of the surrounding community spoke for and against the closure of Laurel Street Bridge. The residents who were for the closure brought up concerns of the bridge being used as a cut through to avoid traffic on the main roads, children’s safety, etc. Ms. Jenny Densmore presented to the TC a petition to close the bridge.
Those against the closure of the Laurel Street Bridge brought up concerns such as the people who do use it as a cut through to avoid traffic would start to use the Church parking lot as a cut through, cause more parking problems, etc.

Hoffman Ave:
Chris Gluck moved to bring item off of table. Don Spencer seconded motion.
Motion carried.
Mr. Dave McKain, 145 Hoffman Ave, stated that there was no complaint or problems with the proposal the TC gave to residents on Hoffman Ave.
Chris Gluck moved to approve plan for Hoffman Ave. Paul Steel seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Plan is to go before City Council for approval
Willowdale Road:
There was not enough information to bring item off table.
Vangilder Road:
Chris Gluck moved to bring item off table. Graham Kenneweg seconded motion. Motion carried.
Lt Lantz has looked at the parking situation on Vangilder Road.
Chris Gluck moved to ask Engineering Department to create a proposal for yellow line from Keyser to Liberty to restrict parking on one side or the other or alternating. Paul Steel seconded. Motion carried.
Laurel Street:
Chris Gluck stated that TC needs get information from the emergency vehicles (police fire trucks, etc.), Mountain Line, BOE, etc.
Don Spencer agreed that the TC should consider everything.
Discussion ensued.
Engineering is to contact the different emergency/public transportation organizations.

Mr. Sutter, 428 Fairlawns, does not want the WVU Child Care Facility to be placed in the community. Mr. Sutter believes that several little Child Care Facilities would be more beneficial. Having one big facility it that area would cause more traffic congestion.
Mary, 663 Valleyview Road, also does not believe that WVU should put the Child Care Facility there.
