Sunnyside Up Project: The Campus Neighborhoods Revitalization Corporation (CNRC), a collaborative partnership between the City of Morgantown and West Virginia University, is working with Environmental Planning and Design to develop a Revitalization Plan for the Sunnyside neighborhood. Sunnyside, located immediately to the west of West Virginia University's Downtown Campus and adjacent to the proposed Square at Falling Run development, encompasses more than 130 acres of land between Campus Drive, Jones Avenue, Eighth Street and the bank of the Monongahela River. The plan is intended to leverage several community assests:
  • Convenient location - Three University campuses and Downtown Morgantown are all within a 15-minute walk from Sunnyside.
  • Transit Services - The Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system, operating between Downtown Morgantown and WVU's Medical Center campus, parallels the riverfront of the Sunnyside neighborhood. More than 20,000 cars also pass by Sunnyside each day along University and Beechurst Avenues.
  • Riverfront - A large portion of the riverfront within the project area is undeveloped and has the opportunity to be reconnected to the neighborhood after years of neglect.

Building upon these components, the goal of Sunnyside's future revitalization is to intergrate a diversity of housing types, mixed use development and civic amenities into a viable City neighborhood.
