I received a citation, what should I do?
Detailed information is listed on the back of the citation, once issued it becomes a matter for the courts. If you disagree or want to contest a citation. Contact the court. Municipal court (304) 284-7498 or Magistrate Court (304) 291-7496.

When should I call the police?

Not every situation can be addressed, anytime a crime is in progress, you suspect a crime is about to be committed or you believe an emergency exists, by all means call 911. Non-emergency requests such as parking complaints, loud parties etc. should be called into the non-emergency number at the communications center (304) 599-6382.

How long will it take for the police to respond to my complaint?

All calls are answered, The 911 communications center prioritizes calls based on what information is given by the caller, emergency or life threatening calls are answered first.

I have a compliment, suggestion or complaint;

Not all issues can be addressed in this area, but in most cases the on duty shift supervisor can answer questions and most likely resolve many problems. A police supervisor can be contacted at (304) 284-7522 24 hours a day.

I have an on-going problem in my neighborhood.

Issues such as running stop signs, speeding etc. can be handled by filling out the on-line service request form or you may contact the police department directly at (304) 284-7522. A police supervisor can make arrangements for increased patrols, speed enforcement etc. If you would like to have the speed display trailer placed on your street, contact the traffic division at (304) 284-7492

Do I have to report an accident?
State law requires that any accident resulting in Injury, Death or damage to an apparent extent of $500 or more must be reported to the police.
