TRASH ENFORCEMENT.

Penalties for non-compliance can include fines or community service clean-up.

On September 6, 2005 The Morgantown City Council amended the ordinance regarding trash service in the “Trash District” formerly the “Everyday Pick Up Area”. The new ordinance was implemented during the Fall 2005 semester as the students returned to class.

In this Trash District, BFI/Allied Waste provides service to its customers with “Back Door Service”. This service eliminates having trash bags or cans out on the streets. Residents in this District will be required to use a heavy-duty 90-gallon toter provided by BFI/Allied Waste. The toters will be placed in the rear or side of the residence so it is out of view from the general public. The toters have serial numbers and they will be assigned by BFI/Allied Waste to each customer.

TIPS FOR STUDENTS TO COMPLY WITH TRASH ORDINANCE:

When you move into your rental property, contact Allied Waste to see if you are

   signed up for garbage service.

Check your lease.  This will give you important information as to whether your

landlord is paying for pickup service or whether you are responsible.

Even if your landlord is responsible, contact Allied Waste to make sure you are

signed up.  Students can still be cited for non-compliance if the residence is not

   signed up.

Do not put your trash in receptacles on other private property.  If you do not reside

at the property, it is illegal for you to put trash there.
