Meeting Minutes

Present: Pam Ball, Darryl DeGripp, Larry Sypolt, Virginia Evans, Christie Venham, Teresa Miller, Wally Venable

Old Business:

Don Knotts Exhibit: Pam acquired the telephone numbers of 2 individuals that own artifacts relating to Don Knotts and will contact them to see if they are willing to loan some of these objects to the museum for the exhibit.  There was some discussion of the Dominion Post article about the Don Knotts statue controversy in Mt. Airy, NC.

Music and the Met Exhibit: It was decided to move the date for this exhibit to Oct. 7, due to time constraints with the Don Knotts exhibit.  It was generally agreed that we could have some of the small 8 oz. bottles of Coke, popcorn from the Warner Theatre, and candy bars that would have been available in the 1920’s as refreshments for the event.

Fundraiser Coloring Book: Virginia is working on collecting pictures of WV buildings, personalities, and icons for the project.

Model House from General Woodworking:  Rick reported that delivery of the house will depend on availability of a truck and personnel at Preferred Surfaces.

Darryl instructed Lora on proper cleaning procedures for the artifacts on hand.

New Business:

Pam met with AIE personnel regarding preliminary discussions of some sort of collaboration for a project involving the area schools.

A local law firm has donated a computer, printer, and software for the museum.  No internet service has been available for the last 2 weeks, however.

Election of Officers: Christie Venham was elected to the position of Co-Chair, Virginia Evans was elected as Treasurer, and Rick McEwuen was elected as secretary.  Lora will be providing Virginia with a monthly report of financial activity as part of her job with GMCT.

A $250 donation has been received from the Wal-Mart Foundation (on Aug. 8th).

A trip to visit the Heinz History Center has been planned for Wed. Aug. 30th. All interested persons wanting to attend should contact Pam.

Rick made a motion for the purchase of a digital camera and appropriate accessories from Office Depot.  The motion was seconded by Virginia.  The motion was amended to allow for the additional purchase of a lock for the cabinet in the office.  The motion was approved unanimously.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:02 PM
