Regular Meeting
July 20, 2006
Present: Christy Venham, Mark Wise, Pam Ball, Paula Martinelli, Rick McEwuen, Larry Sypolt, and Wally Venable
Pam Ball called the meeting to order at 6:07 PM.
Pam announced that Virginia Evans could not be here this evening due to a serious leg injury sustained at work, making her unable to drive at this time.
Old Business
Paula discussed the Cultural Facilities Capital Resource grant that was submitted by GMCT on July 1st on behalf of MAC. Funds available could range from $0 to $500,000. We should know the results by mid September. This grant does not bear any responsibility for MMC or the City; it will be matched by uncommitted funds from GMCT. Paula is continuing to explore other grants that may be available to MMC.
WV Day was a great success for MMC with quite a few visitors and good press coverage. The question of the need for food handlers’ cards for serving cookies and ice cream was discussed. Darryl will check, but feels that the cards were not necessary since no food was actually prepared.
The Coke machine and popcorn machines were delivered to the loading dock. Both machines are in need of extensive cleaning before they can be used or displayed.
Larry mentioned the fact that there are several groups in Morgantown doing research for Arcadia books on Morgantown.
New Business:
Tyler Mae Davis will intern for MMC starting with the fall semester at WVU. She is from Barbara Rasmussen’s class. We also have a computer that has been donated to us and will arrive the first part of next week.
MMC has been asked to do a display for the upcoming Don Knotts Festival, near the end of September, at the Visitors Center. Stacy Brodak has offered the use of her new display system and will have several of her vintage posters framed for the occasion. John Pyles will talk to Don’s friends to obtain the loan of artifacts and pictures for the display. The next meeting of the Don Knotts Festival committee is scheduled for July 28 at 8:30AM at the Visitors Center Conference room.
Rick has secured a gift of the Model House from Bradley Thorne of the old General Woodworking Co. The house originally rested on the roof of the General Woodworking building as advertising for the houses they built in the area in the 1920s and 30s. The house will be disassembled and delivered to the Museum Incubator site as soon as the Thornes have a truck available.
Paula discussed the pass through account MMC has with GMCT. We have a current balance of $5000.00 available. GMCT offers financial tracking of projects and also has a credit card available for use for airline or hotel reservations.
Mark expressed the need for Lora’s time sheets to be verified and signed by a MMC official. Pam said that she personally checks in with Lora at various times during the week. Pam will sign her time cards and will work out a means of getting the time cards to BOPARC. Mark will purchase a time card clock for MMC use. Mark also verified that we still have $700.00 available from last year’s hotel/motel tax. There was discussion of using a portion of these funds to purchase a digital camera for MMC. Darryl will do some shopping around for the camera that would best suit our needs.
Rick announced the gift to MMC of a number of framed reproduction pictures from a 1901 booklet on Morgantown.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:21PM
