Meeting Minutes

June 18, 2009

 

Present: Pam Ball, Michael Mackert, Darryl DeGripp, Rick McEwuen, Christie Venham, Mr. Vance, Jim Snyder, Swifty Shaver, Scott Matthews

 

Pam called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM with the introduction of Swifty as the new president of the Friends of the Morgantown History Museum. Pam also related a memo received from Paula Martinelli regarding parking in the lot beside the museum and the lower parking lot. The memo said that only leaseholders of Louis & Mabel Tanner Building would be allowed to park in the lots. Christie made an announcement about a speaker that would be at the Wise Library

            Pam and Rick discussed the gift of many files and photographs from the Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber also donated several file cabinets as well. Rick announced that the City has decided to give the old Sabraton City records to the museum.

            Michael said that he had completed adding the Sterling Faucet photograph collection to the “Collectify” program. He ahs also distributed copies of the newsletter to the local hotels. Michael also has been working on a display for the upcoming Arts on The River Festival. He further acknowledged the receipt of the books from the Bookshelf program.

Pam announced the museum would receive a new computer specifically for running the 3-D program. We will need to purchase a large monitor.

            Jim Snider discussed an offer by local radio personality Jim Stallings for a space on his website at no cost. He would present a photo and present a question related to it. The contest winner would receive a prize, possibly a copy of the photo.

It was decided to order the WV history program on DVD.

Scott said that he is ready to add content to the website on several of the buttons. He needs information for the content.

Pam requested volunteers to man the table for the Arts on the River Festival. Pam and Michael will work most of the time. Rick will put up the tent on Saturday AM and Darryl will take it down.

Pam and Rick passed around photos from the trip to Pricketts Fort and Friendship Hill. The idea of a timeline was appealing to everyone. There was discussion of using the Monongalia Story books by Earl Core as a template for the layout of displays. Each of the five books could be a “pod” display at the new location on Clay St. Rick showed everyone the building layout he had drawn and there was some discussion of how to place the displays.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 PM.
