SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORTS: Councilor Selin reminded everyone that the Youth Commission is still
looking for candidates; contact Marissa Travinski at BOPARC to get an
application. Councilor Spencer
apologized for the lack of audio at the MPO policy board meeting, and infor=

that the next meetings should be in May and June. Councilor Spencer reported that an
updated report on the Mileground should be done by May 20th at t=
he
next Airport Meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:
Item No 1:<=
/u> Attached you find a letter from the Friends of
Deckers Creek requesting $3,500 to support the 2010 Deckers Creek Adventure=
Day
and the Deckers Creek Youth Advisory Board. Given the past successes of both t=
hese initiatives,
I recommend that the request be approved.

Director reporting Asphalt Bid results to support this year’s Street

Gaddis reported that there are a couple of street signs down on Kingwood &a=

Byrer announced the Mon River Summit was well attended with over 200 partic=
ipants.
He spoke at Cheat Lake Middle School for their WV History Class about City
Government on April 20th. He stated that the project at Cheat=
Lake
Middle School was also part of the Golden Horseshoe Project and they had a winner at Cheat Lake as well=
as
Councilor Shamberger’s daughter was a winner. Councilor Byrer reported
that the Wiles Hill/Highland Neighborhood Association Meeting is at 6pm and=
the
League of Women Voters Candidate Forum is at 7pm at Drummond Chapel. He mentioned that Wes Nugent the C=
ities
Audio Tech is getting married this Saturday, and wished him good luck.

Selin noted at the Mon River Summit afternoon session she attended how well=
the
different agencies were working together that are often at odds with each
other. Councilor Selin thanke=
d the
City for filling potholes on Parkview, and requested paving of Parkview next
year. Councilor Selin request=
ed
that Council look at the Truck Issue again has been getting complaints from
business owners and citizens.

Shamberger commented that the WVU Women’s Basketball team is
inspirational role models for the area’s young girls. She mentioned t=
hat
this week is national volunteer week and she commended all Board and Commis=
sion
members for serving our community. She announced the Woodburn neighborhood
cleanup this Saturday the 24th, rain date for May 8. She also
reported that she spoke to a civics class at Cheat Lake Middle School and to
the Alpha Delta women’s group this past weekend. She thanked the City
Manager for taking care of graffiti, and encouraged others to report and new
graffiti they see.

p; Councilor
Spencer thanked the City for having the Mon Blvd climbing lane swept. He al=
so
thanked Tim Terman for his work on the River Cleanup. He asked the City Man=
ager
about the software for code, planning and fire and Mr. Boroff replied he wi=
ll
send out a memo in response. He then gave quotes from speakers at the recent
Mon River Summit, mentioning the locks and dams are in danger and their
replacement is critical to keeping more trucks off our roads. He stated that
the TDS is increasing and managing the health of the river is important. In
reference to Councilor Selin’s comments on the truck issue, he said he
would mention her concerns at the next MPO meeting.

Byrne mentioned that Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was=

town and he suggested that we get behind our military members in this count=
ry.
He also stated that the new Farmer’s Market facility is continuing to=
be
funded. He said the Event Center had its grand opening the other night and =
it
promises to be a regional hub for many conventions and gatherings. Mayor By=
rne
announced various events in the community coming up including, Earth Day,
Animal Friends, MT Pockets, Green team and the wellness open house. He also
attended dinner with Jeff Lacker of the Federal Reserve. He reported a thank
you letter from the Boy’s and Girl’s Club for the Comcast Commu=
nity
Computer Project. Then Mayor commented that the City is a great place to wo=
rk
with great people.
