CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR

 

 

            The City of Morgantown is announcing an opening for the position of part-time Electrical Inspector.  32 hrs. a week, $15.33/hr.  Will inspect and certify building sites, proposed construction sites, footers, foundations, framing, roofing, insulation, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and wiring; inspect switch and receptacle box installation; inspects wiring and cables for safety an National Electrical Code (NEC) standards compliance; inspects principal electric service entrance for code compliance; inspects all re-wiring and proper repair of faulty wiring; coordinates inspections with the electric company, Housing Inspector, and Fire Dept.; approves and authorizes electrical service hookup; performs miscellaneous inspections of sidewalks, streets, safety measures at razed buildings and construction sites, and other inspections as needed; responds to citizen complaints; maintains reports and records of all inspections; answers inquiries concerning inspection procedures, building problems, code application requirements; provide assistance and perform various duties in the absence of regular personnel; stays up to date on changes and developments affecting various codes and other developments which aid in daily operations.

 

 

                                                                        QUALIFICATIONS

 

o        Requires a high school degree or equivalent education plus supplemental training in electrical construction, or related fields enabling performance of daily activities.

 

o        Requires I.C.C. certification as an Electrical Inspector within 12 months and certification within 6 months of date of hire, and working knowledge of City Ordinances and zoning requirements.

 

o        Requires 3 to 5 years of field experience in construction, electrical or related fields.

 

o        Certification as a Master Electrician registered by the State of West Virginia.

 

o        General knowledge of all construction practices and the ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, electrical layouts and electrical codes.

 

o        Ability to handle dissatisfied customers and patrons, both in person and on the telephone.

 

o        Physical ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.

 

o        Possession of a valid West Virginia Driver’s License.

 

o        Ability to work with minimal supervision.

 

  

                                                            DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

 

o        College education in an electrical field.

 

o        Supplemental courses in building trades and seminars or conferences concerning the National Electrical Code;

 

o        10 yrs. experience as a Electrical Contractor or Inspector.

 

o        Ability to read electrical plans and work with electrical contractors and developers concerning all phases of electrical work.

 

o        Previous experience in dealing with the public as a public relations liaison.
