My lady friend and I spent a weekend at the Waterfront Place Hotel looking out over the river and I must say you have a beautiful city and very friendly people who helped us with our small mini walking tour. I am Town Manager of the Town of New Windsor, Maryland which is just over the line from my home in Pennsylvania. I enjoy visiting other towns & cities and your city was very nice. Thank you!

I am researching my family and my father remembers the spouse of my great~grandfather (G. Simpson, glass~blower from Allegheny Pennsylvania [child of J. Simpson glass~blower from Pennsylvania, born around 1826 in Pennsylvania]) being married to a girl whose maiden name is Morgan, who always told my father as a child that the town of Morgantown is named after her family and remembers a photograph representing a stately manor replete with a cornucopia of staff and much material wealth...any idea what happened to all of this wealth? (ha ha :)

Even though I have been gone over a year, I still consider Morgantown and West Virginia my home. I just love coming down Cheat Mountain and knowing that I will soon be in a nice, comfortable place. You can`t truly appreciate what a good feeling that is until you relocate to a big city with crime, and traffic, etc. If I could move my company here I would be back in a heartbeat!

You have the city I see in my dreams of the place I want to be .How lucky you are you may not know, but I do. If and when I can sell my house I can tell you in person.I have lived all around the country and now live in the city they call Paridise, but it is not to me. When I see all the beauty that surounds your city and feel the hearts of the people the keep the city streets covered in flowers I want to be a part of it all.I have a week off coming up and hope to be able to come and see for myself what I saw as a young man driving through and now on your web site.Till then may you all live in beauty and love.God bless.

I was born (1960) and lived in Morgantown on Huffman Road until I was 9, when I moved to Ohio. I`ve always missed Morgantown and looking at your site brought back many happy childhood memories - Austin`s Grocery, the Theater downtown, Chico`s Ice Cream Parlor, sledding at the University (my dad worked/taught there)... I also miss the mountains and beautiful scenery- Ohio is sooo flat!!

I lived in Morgantown in ` 86. I worked at the retirement home and
McDonalds. Everyone was so nice. That was good living!!. I haven`t been
back for some time now, but from the picture`s it looks better? Is Dairy
Queen and Hardee`s on Main St.?? I always ate there everyday...
Dairy Queen is expanding downtown, but Hardee's is no longer downtown.

I did a search on the Joni Mitchell lyric "When morning comes to Morgantown ... " this evening. As a result of the search I came across your site. You probably get a lot of people stop in your town just to see what Joni was singing about. It must be a great place, as it`s a beautiful song, and one that near moves me to tears because of its charming simplicity and superbly selected lyrics.

Boy, do I miss Morgantown! I had the best time in my life there. Lived there from July of 06 till Feb. 07. Stayed as long as I could, got hit hit by a car on Pleasant st. in Jan.and couldnt work. So I came back to IN. I would like to thank C. Canfield for being in the right spot at the right time for,she seen the car that hit me and called police.I would also like to thank officer S.F. Bennett and the Morgantown police dept. for responding so fast. The person who hit me would have gotten away with hitting a pedestrian if not there fast response. But all in all I love your town and plan on returning as soon as possible. Thanks for such a great place to live.

Born Osage, WV. In the Bertha Hill Mining community. My family traveled to Fairmont to ride a ferry when we visited Morgantown. I remember hiding on the floor of car because I had heard the adults talking about a family whose car was not safely on board this ferry and how it slipped into the river. Be careful what you say for your children to hear. Even hate bridges to this day. We moved close to Sabraton in 1944. Still Morgantown City Limits. I know that my children did not have the wonderful, hill roaming, climbing to the top of a cliff, swinging from a grapevine, jumping out of barn lofts childhood that my siblings and I had. I miss Morgantown with the Homecoming parades and standing on CourtHouse Square to catch all the buses I had to catch...you know... to get to schoo and back. In the rain, sleet and snow...and being a girl scout sitting in the back of "Smitties" bus and having a man fall on my feet and die right in front of me. I was 10. Vivid memories....the good and the scary. I still love Morgantown after all these years and glad you made this site so great....so I can step into those pictures.

I was born in Morgantown in `79 but didn`t live here until college in `98. I left in `02 to pursue work in Atlanta,GA and returned just a year later. I also lived in Huntington, WV for a few years, but nothing compares to Morgantown. For a small WV town, the diversity is wonderful. The college is definitely a big part of this town. The hills are beautiful and there are many outdoor activities you can enjoy either in town or within just a short drive from town. Many outdoor enthusiasts love it here, whether they be bikers, kayakers, hikers, campers, etc, etc.. The music scene is pretty good, too. Check out Morgantown. You`ll like it.

haven`t been back to Morgantown since I graduated from WVU in `92 but it is great to see the town looking so spiffy. I really enjoyed the area, the people, and of course the Mountaineers. Loved the pictures, new and old. I do have a question, is Sunnyside gone?
It maybe gone as you knew it, but the Sunnyside is developing into new student housing building. See http://www.sunnsideupwv.org

Hi everyone, I am a Travel Agent and also Spanish Teacher for travelers, foreign investors, hotel owners at ECORA Spanish Institute in my hometown Merida (the richest, safest and named Latin American Capital of Culture in 2000), in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico (4hrs from the Mexican Caribbean where Cancun is so you know) I was surfing the web to find out more about Morgan town because a friend from Merida Mexico went there to WVU for grad school and he said he liked it. I may go to Morgan town to continue my education too. Anyway I loved this website, very well organized, it answered almost all my questions. (Except buses). It seems like a town I would like to visit. Thank you for all the info!

It was an honor to write the tribute to Don Knotts. It was heart warming to see the love that his family has for him.His heart never left Morgantown.I`ll never forget the memorial service for Don.I`m now on the voting dept.of the Song Writer`s Hall of Fame,Nationally Acclaimed poet and Bmi Songwriter in Nashville all because of the influence and encouragement that has been in my life by those that believed in me.I wrote for the people and never wanted recognition for myself. When I think of Morgantown,I think of Don Knotts, his niece Sandy and her family and the rest of Don`s great family!!
