Morgantown elections for City Council occur every other year. All seven Council seats are up for election every two years. City Council selects the Mayor and Vice-Mayor each year at the first Council meeting in July.

The City of Morgantown will conduct the April 26, 2011 election by a Vote-by-Mail process. Steps to be aware of in the upcoming election:

  • Deadline to register for the City Election is April 5, 2011. If you are not registered , register at Monongalia County Clerk's Office at the County Courthouse.
  • Each registered voter within the Morgantown City Limits will receive a ballot in the mail between April 8-12, 2011.
  • Make your selections for City Council by marking the box next to one candidate in each City ward.
  • The ballot will be sent with two return envelops. Place your ballot in the envelope labeled "ballot secrecy envelope", this envelope should not have any return address or identifying markings.
  • Place the secrey ballot envelope into the ballot return envelope. This envelope will require your signature and a return address.
  • Before 8:00 pm on April 26, 2011, return the ballot inside the two envelopes by mailing (stamp required), or by dropping off at the following dropoff locations (no stamp needed):
    1. City Hall, 389 Spruce Street
    2. Wiles Hill Community Senior Center
    3. Mountaineer Mall, Greenbag Road (beside Social Security Office)
    4. Marilla Center, 799 East Brockway Avenue
    5. Wiles Hill Community and Senior Center, 287 Eureka Drive

  • For your vote to be counted, it has to been in the possession of the City Clerk before 8:00 pm on April 26. Ballots that are postmarked, but not received, by 8:00 pm will not be counted.
