Meeting Minutes:
The February monthly meeting of the Morgantown Municipal Bicycle Board (BB) was called to order at 6:35 p.m. at the Public Safety Building by chairman Frank Gmeindl with the following members attending:
Chip Wamsley, Marilyn Newcome, Autumn Bryson, Jon Rosenbaum, Nick Hein, Don Dickerson, Tyler Pearson, Don Spencer, Bill Reger-Nash, Alice Vernon, Betsy Shogren, gunnar Shogren, Hugh Kierig, and Frank Gmeindl. Absent members were Sonitt Bhatt, Greg Good, Sam Stone, and John Lozier.
Ø Agenda Item 1 (Agenda):
The agenda was approved by all.
Ø Agenda Item 2 (Action Items):
Open Action Items:
o #13- open. B. Shogren WILL have some sort of an annual report done before the March meeting
o #14-closed. The grant application was submitted by Gmeindl. Feedback will not be received until June.
o #15-open. Word is spreading and more interest is being generated for the proposed Campus Connector. The landowners will be approached shortly.
o #19-open. Hein has passed this off to Rosenbaum due to conflict of interest (daughter is still in attendance at MHS). Alice Vernon has offered to assist Rosenbaum.
o #20-closed. Our newest member, Hugh Kierig, was in attendance! Welcome, Hugh.
o #21-closed. Bryson made a very nice, comprehensive draft of a Morgantown bike map. She will continue to make improvements and add details, including hills, Mountain Line Transit stops, rail trail access/parking, etc.
o #22-open. Lozier reported on Max’s Uphill Challenge to the Traffic Commission. They expressed interest, but also stated that a parade permit would be needed for the actual event. A resolution for the permit needs to be submitted by the next TC meeting. Training rides will begin 4/6/08 @ 2PM behind the (old) Food Lion. This committee has a plethora of other ideas, including donation of pins from Positive Spin, flashers, bells, brochures/flyers, and a letter to the Dominion Post.
o #23-closed (see attached spreadsheet). If a member is not getting credit for attending, please inform the secretary and she will remedy the situation.
o #24-open. Hein and Spencer will discuss the specifics of adding a bicycle related question to the WV driver’s exam.
Ø Agenda Item 3 (Ripe Banana Issues):
o Don Spender reported on the chevrons. They are now being considered part of the funding package that has been formulated to address immediate transportation issues. At the latest meeting with Dan Boroff and Terry Huff, Terry was instructed to set-up a meeting with the WV DOH (in process). Frank will provide a summary of chevron information so that Don Spencer can continue to pursue this goal.
o Hugh reported that a new intermodal transportation facility near the med center PRT station is in the works. This facility will provide bicycle storage, lockers, and showers. Hein will provide information to Hugh regarding bicycle storage.
o Frank will present “Accomodating Bicycles” to the MPO on 2/28 @ 7 PM at the City Hall. PLEASE ATTEND IF POSSIBLE! A Dry Run of this presentation will be given on 2/21, 7 PM, City Hall.
Ø Agenda item 4: (Goals):
In order to avoid stagnation, our goals are in need of revision and renewal. However, it would be nice to have a summary of what has been accomplished/what is currently being accomplished to understand the history of the BB. This will also help to familiarize the new members with the actions (past, present, future) of the BB. Because the secretary has not yet finished the annual report, this discussion will be postponed until a synopsis of the BB activities has been completed (i.e. next month). Also, to facilitate the goals discussion, each member of the BB should come prepared to discuss the one goal that is of great importance to him/her (i.e. what lights his/her fire [in the bicycle department only, please]).
Ø Agenda Item 5 (New Action Items)
· #25 - Gmeindl will provide Spencer with the summary information on the chevrons.
· #26 - Hein will provide Kierig with the summary information on bicycle storage.
· #27 - All members will think of one goal to discuss at the next meeting.
Also, please try to attend Frank’s presentation, entitled, “Accommodating Bicycles,” on 2/28/08, 7PM, @ City Hall.
Ø Agenda Item 6 (Meeting Evaluation)
Deltas (changes we want to make): - more chairs were needed, especially since we would like to make our visitors feel welcome.
Positives: - good energy at the meeting!
The next regularly scheduled meeting is March 6, 2008 @ 6:30 pm, at the Public Safety Building.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 pm.
