Beautification Commission Meeting

October 24, 2007

 

 

Members Present: Donna Ford-Werntz; Jerry Steketee; Bill MacDonald; Kara Hurst; Neva Gocke; Dale McGill; Don Spencer; Anne Cumming; Marchetta Maupin.  Attending guests were WVU Journalism and Landscape Artictecture students. 

 

Projects on Agenda which will be carried over to next year: Public Works fence along Mississippi Avenue and entry to South Middle School, the vacant lot across from the Hotel Morgan (Main Street Morgantown is coordinating a lease with a representative of the family that owns the lot).

 

Adopt a Street: Donna says that a handful have renewed their commitments to adopt a street.

Bill Rumble is having the Public Works Department take a more active role in the Adopt a Street Program.  Jeff has a list of streets on the website that are available for Adopt a Street.

 

Tree Board: Marchetta mulched the Arbor Day trees downtown.  Bill stated that Dan Brown had completed the work at the Airport and Garlow House except removing the middle Zelkova, as had been discussed. 

 

Proud of Our Town: Plans are to get volunteers for triangles recognized through “Proud of our Town”.

 

Marchetta’s Project Report: Seasonal person is done - Marchetta needs more help.  Seasonal decorations will be put up after Thanksgiving.  Mulch washed out of the trees on the upper part of High Street.  The bumpouts need the trash cans moved out of them and fences installed around them.
