Outstanding Grants Received Prior To 2001 - $ 935,000

1995 & 1996 Small Cities Block Grantsused to develop the Hazel Ruby McQuain Park, Bus Depot, and remove the Armory Building are being closed. All available funds have been expended.

1997 Appalachian Regional Commission Grant used to develop Hurley Street in the Wharf District is 91% finished. Close out of that grant will be soon.

1999 TEA-21 Grant $560,000

Construction will include a pedestrian bridge and sidewalk in Marilla Park and sidewalks along Patteson Drive and Burroughs Street. The Burroughs Street, Patteson Drive, and Marilla Park sidewalks are complete. A bridge crossing Deckers Creek is under construction and will be complete in early 2002.

2000 TEA-21 Grant $250,000

Grant will include the construction of safety fences and gravel berm along the Caperton and Deckers Creek trail to create a safer environment for walking and biking. Grant will also include additional sidewalks in Marilla Park, in addition to the 1999 Grant, and pedestrian crosswalks within the Park.
Sidewalks and crosswalks in Marilla Park are complete. The safety berm and fencing will be complete within December 2001.

Metropolitan Theatre Preservation Foundation $90,000

The grant will be used to renovate the interior of the 1924 facility. Renovations may include the sprinkler system, upgrade the plumbing, and/or other interior renovations important to pass code inspections.

Ruby Memorial Hospital-Rosenbaum Family House $25,000

The Rosenbaum Family House was awarded funds through the Local Economic Development Assistance (LEDA) Program. The City of Morgantown is the conduit for this non-profit agency to receive LEDA Grant funds. Grant funds will help fix ventilation problems within the Family House.

State Retiree Attraction Community $10,000

Promote Morgantown area as a destination for retirees and native West Virginians to relocate because of a great quality of life. The City of Morgantown is the conduit for this non-profit agency to receive this special grant funding.


2001 Grants Received - $ 533,760

2001 TEA-21 Grant for Bike Lane and Sidewalk $252,000

This grant will provide the construction of a pedestrian sidewalk and bike lane along Monongalia Blvd. between 8th Street and Star City limits.

2001 TEA-21 Grant for Clay Street $264,760

Grant is the second phase of the Wharf District landscaping project. It will include additional site improvements in the district such as, street brick replacing and repair, sidewalk repair, lighting, landscaping, signage, and site furniture where possible on Clay Street between Hurley and Mechanic Street.

Morgantown Theatre Company $10,000

The grant will support the Afternoon Theatre Enrichment Program which involves children ages 6-18 in the production of theatre arts. Students will learn theatre through acting, dancing, and singing. City of Morgantown is the conduit for this non-profit agency to receive Governor's Community Partnership Grant funds.

Historic Landmarks Commission $ 4,200

Grant from Historic Preservation Office to fund a survey for identification and evaluation of buildings in the Greenmont Area for sponsorship for National Historic Register Nomination.

Historic Landmarks Commission $ 2,800

Grant from the WV Historic Preservation Office with City/County match to survey the historic and architectural significance of master stone mason Thoney Pietro's work for nomination to the National Historic Register.

2002 Grant Applications - $1,425,000

2002 TEA-21 Grant for Clay Street #2 approx. $800,000

Grant is the third phase of the Wharf District landscaping project. It will include additional site improvements in the district such as, street brick replacing and repair, sidewalk repair, lighting, landscaping, signage, and site furniture where possible on Clay Street between Mechanic Street and Donley Street, & between Wharf Street and Hurley Street. Final cost estimates are currently being developed.

2002 TEA-21 Recreational Trail for Krepps Park $ 60,000

Grant will include 3,000 feet of new, crushed-limestone trail and a foot bridge.

2002 TEA-21 Recreational Trail for White Park $ 40,000

Grant will include 4,000 feet of new, crushed-limestone trail connecting Hite Street and Mississippi Street.

2001 Small Cities Block Grant $500,000

Grant will include three components: Owner occupied rehabilitation revolving loan program, rental rehabilitation revolving loans for landlords of low-to-moderate income households, and a down payment assistance program.

Ruby Memorial Hospital-Rosenbaum Family House $ 25,000

Again, the Rosenbaum Family House was listed as a potential project in the Governor's Community Partnership Program. The City of Morgantown is the conduit for this non-profit agency to receive Community Partnership Grant funds. Grant funds will help fix ventilation problems within the Family House.
